Experience an unforgettable adventure in the Peruvian Andes with our Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour from Cusco. This exciting full-day experience combines the thrill of riding an ATV (quad bike) with the breathtaking beauty of Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or the Mountain of Seven Colors.
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Enjoy a scenic drive through traditional Andean villages, beautiful valleys, and impressive mountain landscapes. Along the way, you will stop for a delicious breakfast before continuing to the ATV starting point.
Upon arrival, your professional guide will provide a safety briefing and basic instructions on how to operate the ATVs. No previous riding experience is required, making this adventure suitable for beginners and experienced riders.
Hop on your ATV and enjoy an exciting ride along scenic mountain trails, surrounded by spectacular views of the Andes, grazing alpacas, and traditional Andean communities.
After the ATV ride, you will continue with a short hike to the Rainbow Mountain viewpoint, located at approximately 5,036 meters (16,522 feet) above sea level. Here, you will discover the mountain’s incredible natural colors, created by mineral deposits over millions of years.
Take your time to admire the panoramic views, capture unforgettable photographs, and learn about the geological and cultural significance of this remarkable destination.
After exploring Rainbow Mountain, return to your ATV and enjoy the ride back to the starting point. You will then travel to a local restaurant for lunch before returning to Cusco.
The Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour is an excellent alternative to the traditional hiking tour, allowing travelers to enjoy an exciting outdoor adventure with less walking while experiencing one of Peru’s most famous natural attractions.
Rainbow Mountain Atv Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Cusco – Pitumarca – Kayrawari – Rainbow Mountain – Kayrawiri – Cusco.
We will begin our journey by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 3:00 a.m. From there, we will embark on a scenic drive of about three hours to the town of Kairawiri, where our ATV adventure will commence. Upon our arrival around 6:00 a.m., we will enjoy a hearty breakfast to energize ourselves for the day ahead. Following breakfast, we will proceed to the designated training area, where our experienced guide will provide thorough instructions on how to operate the ATVs safely and effectively.
Once everyone is prepared, we will begin our ATV expedition toward the final stop, a ride that will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Along the route, you will have the opportunity to witness llamas and alpacas grazing freely in their natural habitat, as well as catch glimpses of the majestic Ausangate mountain in the distance, along with the strikingly colorful landscapes that characterize this region.
At around 8:00 a.m., we will dismount from the ATVs and undertake a short five-minute hike to reach the summit of Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca. As some of the first visitors of the day, you will enjoy a tranquil and uncrowded experience at the viewpoint, allowing ample time—approximately 30 minutes—to take stunning photographs and absorb the breathtaking scenery.
Following our time at the summit, we will descend the trail—another five-minute walk—to return to the ATVs and begin our ride back to the original starting point. Between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., we will drive to the community of Ttio, where a delicious lunch will be served. After lunch, we will continue our journey back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., where you will be dropped off, concluding our adventure.
Optional Red Valley Hike
Note: If you choose to hike to the Red Valley, please be aware that you will not be able to return using the quad bike. In this case, your route will involve hiking to the Red Valley and returning on foot to Kayrawiri. The itinerary is as follows: after disembarking from the quad bike, you will begin a brief 5-minute hike to the Rainbow Mountain, where you will spend approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour enjoying the site. Following this, we will continue on a hike to the Red Valley, which takes around 1 hour for the round trip. The trail to the Red Valley consists of both uphill and downhill sections. Initially, the path descends, but just before reaching the Red Valley viewpoint, it ascends again. On the return, the trail begins with a downhill segment, followed by an uphill section back to the Rainbow Mountain. From there, the remainder of the journey is downhill, leading all the way back to the starting point of the ATV tour. So you will be back in Cusco around 4 pm.
