Overview

Discover one of Peru’s most spectacular natural attractions on our Rainbow Mountain Tour from Cusco. Also known as Vinicunca or the Mountain of Seven Colors, this breathtaking destination is famous for its colorful mineral-rich slopes, stunning Andean landscapes, and incredible views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains.

Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Enjoy a scenic drive through traditional Andean villages and beautiful mountain valleys as we make our way toward the Rainbow Mountain trailhead. Along the way, we will stop for a delicious breakfast before continuing our journey.

Upon arrival, your professional guide will provide a short briefing before beginning the hike. The trail takes you through beautiful high-altitude landscapes, where you may encounter alpacas, llamas, and local Andean communities.

After approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of hiking, you will reach the famous Rainbow Mountain viewpoint, located at approximately 5,036 meters (16,522 feet) above sea level. Here, you will admire the mountain’s incredible natural colors, formed by different mineral deposits over millions of years.

Take time to enjoy the panoramic views, capture unforgettable photographs, and learn about the geological and cultural significance of this remarkable destination.

After exploring Rainbow Mountain, we will begin our descent to the trailhead, where our transportation will be waiting. We will then stop for a traditional lunch before returning to Cusco in the afternoon.

The Rainbow Mountain Full-Day Tour is perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and travelers looking to experience the beauty of the Peruvian Andes in a single day.

RAINBOW MOUNTAIN PERU TOUR ITINERARY:

Day 01: Cusco – Cusipata – Llacto – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Cusco

We will pick you up from the reception area of your hotel in Cusco at 03:00 a.m. for your Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco. The journey begins with a three-hour drive in a private van—approximately two hours on a paved road followed by one hour on a dirt road—until we reach the trailhead.

Upon arrival at the trailhead, we will provide a box breakfast to energize you for the hike ahead. After breakfast, we begin our hike to the summit of Rainbow Mountain. The ascent takes approximately one hour, depending on your pace. Along the way, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the colorful Andean landscapes, and you may encounter llamas, alpacas, and local vendors selling coca tea, soft drinks, and other refreshments.

Upon reaching the summit of Rainbow Mountain, you will have time to enjoy the panoramic views and take photographs. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour at the top, depending on the weather conditions and the group’s trekking speed.

After taking in the views of Rainbow Mountain, we will continue on a short 30-minute hike to the spectacular Red Valley, a lesser-known but equally stunning destination. We will then return to the trailhead, which will take roughly one hour.

From the trailhead, we will drive approximately one hour to the town of Cusipata, where a delicious lunch will be served. After lunch, we will begin the return journey to Cusco, arriving back at your hotel around 3:00 p.m., depending on traffic and road conditions.

The Sacred Valley at our own pace

We loved exploring Pisac and Ollantaytambo with someone who knows the valley so well. The stops were thoughtfully planned, and lunch with views of the mountains was a lovely touch.
